The Galerie im Taxispalais, which was founded in 1963, is a non-commercial, public exhibition venue for international, contemporary art. It was reopened again in 1999 under new management following a period of extensive renovation.
The architects who successfully renovated and adapted additional exhibition space to the originally Baroque building were awarded the Austrian "Bauherrn" prize in 1999. The Galerie is made up of two levels (connected by an elevator), comprising a total of 1,400 sq. meters, 500 sq. meters of which are used for exhibitions. In addition to the five exhibition rooms, it also has a reading room with a number of international art and cultural publications that is open to the public as well as a small cafè.
