Private Gallery
Galerie Richard is now Representing Takesada Matsutani in the USA
We are pleased to announce that Galerie Richard is now the Paris and USA representative gallery of established Japanese artist, Takesada MATSUTANI. Born in Osaka in 1937, Matsutani has been living in Paris since 1966. Galerie Richard, Paris organized his first retrospective exhibition in France entitled From the 60's to Present from March to May 2012.

Matsutani participated in his first exhibtion with the Gutai Group at the Gutai Pinacotheca in 1960, where he continued to exhibit very regularly until its dissolution in 1972. There is a growing interest in the Gutai artists with two large museum exhibitions dedicated to this avant-garde group: Gutai, The Spirit of an Era at The National Art Center, Tokyo, from July to September 2012, and the upcoming exhibition at The Guggenheim Museum, New York, entitled Gutai: Splendid Playground, opening February 15, 2013.

Galerie Richard emphasizes the distinctive achievements of Matsutani with his unique artistic use of two materials: wood glue and graphite in his paintings and works on paper. The artist introduced three-dimensional painting in Japan in 1961 and has been continuously developing the process since. In 1977, Matsutani began employing black sticks of graphite to draw lines uniformly, covering the wooden glue and canvas with a metallic luster. The soft curved three-dimensional surface, combined with the glimmering lead gray of the graphite surface, creates a deep feeling of profundity and sensuality.

Galerie Richard, New York, will present a group show entitled Painting Going Into Three Dimensions, which will feature Bram Bogart, Ron Gorchov and Takesada Matsutani together for the first time from October 18 to November 24, 2012. Galerie Richard, New York, will present Matsutani's first solo show in New York City in two successive exhibitions from January 31st to April 20, 2013.
