| Artist Led Workshop Series Highlanes Gallery has developed a series of 4 workshops for children led by artists on Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays over late July and August. David Newton, Raphael Hynes, Liam O’ Broin and Diana Copperwhite each lead a 3 day workshop block for children using their own practice and the temporary and collection exhibitions as a source. Each block costs 20euro per child with appropriate concessions for more than one child. All materials are supplied and included in the cost. Please bring an old t-shirt/shirt. Early booking is advised. David Newton - Week 1 Wednesday 29 - Friday 31 July 2.30pm-4.00pm For children aged 10- 14 years Using the Richard Gorman exhibition Shuffle, painter David Newton will invite the group to look at the exhibition and begin by observing and sketching shapes in a set of objects. The group will also explore collage and make a study for a painting. Raphael Hynes - Week 2 Wednesday 5 - Friday 7 August 2.30pm-4.00pm For children aged 10 – 14 years Looking at the exhibition Shuffle by Richard Gorman and the current exhibition from the Drogheda Municipal Art Collection the group led by painter Raphael Hynes will explore elements of abstract painting looking - colour, shape and composition. The students will also explore how these elements are used in the history of painting and have the opportunity to make their own abstract paintings. Liam O’ Broin - Week 3 Wednesday 12 - Friday 14 August 2.30-4.00pm For children aged 5 – 10 years Making an impression An introduction to printmaking led by artist Liam O’ Broin exploring techniques, methods and materials for creative printmaking. After a short introduction to the concept of the printed impression the group will work at examples of work in print the Drogheda Municipal Art Collection. The children will explore a wide variety of ways of making print impressions from made and found objects from simple everyday materials readily available. Diana Copperwhite - Week 4 Wednesday 19 - Friday 21 August 2.30pm-4.00pm For children aged 5 – 10 years Using the Richard Gorman exhibition Shuffle, painter Diana Copperwhite will invite the group to look at the exhibition where they will consider shapes. The group will be invited to look at imaginary space and will make mobiles. Booking, cost and workshop details: Cost 20euro per workshop block (3 day session) Maximum of 14 places per workshop All materials are supplied (please bring an old t-shirt or shirt) Highlanes Gallery has a Child Protection Policy – a copy is available at the gallery reception Artists are supported by a Highlanes Gallery invigilator during the workshop Please note the age range for the different workshops Family Group drop-in drawing Every Wednesday (from 29 July, 5, 12, 19 and 26 August) 11.00-1.00pm Led by Hilary Kelly, Duty Officer and supported by gallery invigilators family groups are invited to drop-in between 11.00am and 1.00pm to look at the Drogheda Municipal Art Collection and Shuffle by Richard Gorman. Groups can use dry materials and paper of various sizes supplied by the gallery. Groups can stay for a short or long period. Children must be accompanied by an adult. (Free, no booking required, no numbers limit, for parents/guardians and children of all ages) Family guided tours of the exhibitions Free guided tours of the exhibitions for family groups can be booked on Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays between 10.30am and 4.00pm. Tours can be tailored to your needs, interests and age range as a group and can be from 15 minutes to 40 minutes.
