|Hilger modern/contemporary @ ARCOmadrid_ 2011 (10.2.2011)|
|At this year’s ARCO, Hilger modern/contemporary is pleased to present works by Ángel Marcos , Anastasia Khoroshilova and Sara Rahbar . It shows the different ways of how our artists are dealing with the topic of “identity.” We would be more than happy to welcome you to our booth A01 in Hall 8.|
In his piece Ángel Marcos maintains a conversation between the top photograph and the light boxes piled as clothes on the shelves of a boutique. The photograph is on top of nine light boxes, with African scenes of people working with textiles. This way the author wants us to understand that in his narration he places the initial work in an aesthetic look to us, ignoring the effort that poor countries must perform. This way we could talk about how the manufactured goods fulfill needs and desires, and then are sold following the distribution plan imposed by the markets.
Anastasia Khoroshilova is working aside the glamorous stereotypes of the Russian society. Inhabitants of rural areas, soldiers on formerly confidential army bases, Jewish students or deaf teenagers — all these people stand on the brink of society (for the most part the Russian society) . With her analogue taken portraits she shows the real identity of Russia. She will take part in the Biennale de Venezia 2011.
In her work Sara Rahbar expresses the turbulence that exists within her, also based on her ethnic background. Torn between two opposed identities she tries to work it out by trying to make sense of her inner fears. In order for her not to be limited by her fears she communicates her pain and thereby heals herself. Her works are her medium to deal with life and death and all the suffering inbetween.
Please have a look at the issue no. 41 of the magazine art.es that features, on page 22, Erró, mastermind of collage and part of the figuration narrative. The issue will be delivered to our booth.
You will also have the opportunity to view collages and paintings by Erró at our booth.
Looking forward to welcoming you to our BOOTH A01 in Hall 8 !
