BOOTH F18, APRIL 11-13
International Roster of Marina Adams, Siri Berg, Karlos Cárcamo, David Rhodes, Rebecca Smith
Dallas, TX (April 9, 2014) At this year's Dallas Art Fair, located at FIG and adjacent to the Dallas Museum of Art, Hionas Gallery (NYC) is pleased to present a curated exercise in minimalist abstraction, comprised of new and vintage works by an international collection of contemporary artists that includes Marina Adams, Siri Berg, Karlos Cárcamo, David Rhodes, and Rebecca Smith. Gallery owner Peter Hionas will be on hand at Booth F18 for the fair's duration.
Of particular note in Hionas' program is the presentation of select vintage works by Swedish-born Siri Berg, who began exhibiting with the gallery in 2012 and is enjoying immense critical acclaim late in her career. From Berg's extensive catalogue, Hionas is presenting a pristine white-on-white, 54 x 54 in. acrylic painting (White Series, 1977), as well as two white-on-white assemblage pieces incorporating found industrial objects (White Holes and Singularities, 1980).
Complementing Berg's minimalist geometric works is an untitled triptych (2013) by British-born David Rhodes, made with carbon black acrylic on raw canvas. Rhodes composes rhythmic spacing of lines within a figurative forest of light and shade, lending his abstract paintings an architectural quality. On the other end of the spectrum is a set of steel sculptures by Rebecca Smith (Lake Effect and Lake Surface, 2012), painted in lilac interference paint and resembling elemental calligraphic formations.
Rounding out the exhibition are two beautifully composed 2013 drawings by Marina Adams, whose mastery of color fields is paired with portraits that bear traces of analytic cubism, and two brand new abstract latex and spray enamel paintings on wood panel by El Salvador-born Karlos Cárcamo, from the artist's signature Hard-Edge series.
Hionas Gallery was founded in 2011 and is located on 124 Forsyth St. in the Lower East Side of New York City. Its mission is to invite contemporary and emerging artists to showcase their latest visions through monthly solo exhibitions.
