International Photography Awards (IPA) announced the winners of this year's IPA Photographer of the Year awards.

David Burdeny of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada was awarded Nature Photographer of the Year in the 2008 International Photography Awards which shortlists him for designation International Photographer of the Year to be announced at the Lucie Awards in New York on October 20, 2008. The award winning images were culled from NORTH/SOUTH series, September 11 - October 5, at the Jennifer Kostuik Gallery, Vancouver.

Having worked on five continents for nearly a decade, David Burdeny has diligently established himself as one of Canada's most successful fine art landscape photographers. With wide representation across Canada, USA and Europe he has participated in over forty solo and group exhibitions since 2003.

The 2008 International Photography Awards has received over 22,000 submissions from 124 countries across the globe making it one of the largest professional photography competitions in the world. IPA's mission is to salute the achievements of the world's finest photographers, to discover new and emerging talent, and to promote the appreciation of photography. Since 2003 IPA has had the privilege and opportunity to acknowledge and recognize contemporary photographers' accomplishments in this specialized art form. David Burdeny will be acknowledged amongst the living legends of photography as we honor Patrick Demarchelier, Susan Meiselas, Richard Misrach, Herman Leonard, John Iacono, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Josef Koudelka, Erwin Olaf, Sara Terry and Visa Pour L'Image Festival for their accomplishments and contributions to photographic art.
