KIAF - Korea International Art Fair

KIAF - Korea International Art Fair

Art Fair

Since its creation in 2002 by Galleries' Association of Korea, Korea International Art Fair(KIAF) is now opening its 4th exhibition in Seoul. Comparing to other international art fairs in Asia newly established but yet inactive, KIAF is taking its firm position in international art scene as well as in art market. Now KIAF, along with CIGE in Beijing and Shanghai art fair, is in competition to join and take prior part in northeast asian art market representing and promoting Asian contemporary art amongst many. But this competition is also engendering active exchange in the asian art scene not only in perspective of sales but also in terms of cultural exchange between countries and art galleries. At this expansion of art market in Asia, KIAF is found at the core.
Korea International Art Fair in 2005 presents the finest selection of modern and contemporary art for 6 days in COEX Indian Hall with 126 domestic and international art galleries from 11 countries. Specially as the year of artistic exchange between Germany and Korea, about 20 european galleires including 7 renowned German galleries will feature the wide spectrum of artworks, from Max Ernst and Gerhard Richter to Dennis Openheim, Jesus Soto, Andre Mason or even to young asian artists working in Europe like Yue Minjun, Yang Shaobing, Ik-joong Kang and SEO, if name a few. Besides main exhibition, a special exhibition of a memorable collection of German contemporary art by private dutch collector "Arie de Knecht" as well as an exhibition "Korea-Germany Digital Media Art" composed of 10 Korean and German media artists will be presented for better understanding about the German contemporary art and artistic exchange for art lovers. Furthermore, as there were many Japanese galleries last year, this year also about 20 Japanese galleries will be presenting contemporary Japanese art. For the Korean galleries as the majority of exhibitors, they will also show many upcoming young and local artists as well as world's top artists like Paik Nam Jun, Richard Serra, and Louise Bourgeouis.
