  Public Institution

Platform China Contemporary Art Institute Established in 2005,as a multi-function art organization, the main aim of Platform China Contemporary Art Institute (Platform China) is to develop and promote contemporary art in China and to build up a platform of cultural exchange and dialogue between Chinese and international artists. We not only directly supports visual art,performing/performance art, experimental music, new media and all the other cutting-edge art forms, but also promotes contemporary art through publishing, curating, and managing art projects.

Mission and Objectives

The goal of Platform China is to create an open artistic environment in which contemporary art in all its different identities can be created, shown, and discussed. We discover, support and promote excellent young Chinese artists and promote international artists' recognition in China.

NEW APPROACHES

Platform China
is more than just a gallery. Our starting point not only lies in the use of the space, and the diversity of the programs (from visual art and film to music and performance) but also in the events and expositions we put on. Platform China wants to play a leading role in exploring different curating models. How can we stimulate interaction and collaboration a group of artists? In what way does a space influence a work? What happens when the artist becomes the curator? How do "west" and "east" relate?......

WORKPLACE/WORK IN PROGRESS

Platform China
wants to be an open and dynamic space -- a workplace -- where both established and emerging artists can not only show their works, but also create new works. With its Artist-in-Residence program and its Project Space inside 798 Art District , Platform China hopes to assist artists from different backgrounds as they define their artistic identity. This support consists of providing space and infrastructure for artists to work, organizing "work in progress" events open to the public, and promoting artists' work on a national and international level.

MULTIDISCIPLINARY/INTERACTIVITY

At Platform China , events and programs are multidisciplinary, which challenge fixed boundaries of artistic disciplines. We stimulate interaction between visual art and music, architecture and performance, film and installation, the public and the performer -- any and every possible combination.

OPENNESS

Platform China
's most important aspect is Openness. We want to foster discussion, without necessarily trying to provide the viewers or the artists with answers. Everyone who wants to join the open platform that we are building can contact us with projects and proposals.

Spaces

Platform China 's main space is located in Caochangdi art district in Beijing. It has two exhibition spaces (1,500sq.m) - Space A and Space B – each with ceilings more than 6 meters high.

BIAP Studios

Platform China has developed six working/living studios now. Two are located inside Caochangdi, just beside Platform China 's exhibition spaces. Another four are located inside the 798 Art District . Each studio is about 70sq.m -90sq.m with equipment and facilities.
