Sariev Gallery was founded by Katrin Sarieva and Vesselina Sarieva in 2004 in Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria. The gallery's mission is to establish itself in the form of commercial gallery for contemporary art in Bulgaria and to promote Bulgarian contemporary art.
Sariev Gallery has had two stages in its history so far regarding the presented artists and techniques. The first stage was based on photography and conceptual ceramics - Sariev Gallery - Centre for ceramics and photography. The organic development of the gallery transformed this format and during the fifth year, in September 2009, a new line of policy for exhibitions began marking it as a gallery for contemporary art. Sariev Contemporary was officially announced in 2011.
The annual exhibition program of Sariev Contemporary includes mainly solo exhibitions that are centered around a clearly expressed concept by an artist or curator and developed for Sariev gallery. The presented artists are internationally recognized Bulgarian authors; authors of crucial importance for the art of transition in the 1980's and 1990's in Bulgaria; young artists in the beginning of their career. Since its foundation the gallery has maintained an annual exhibition "Background: Young Artists".
The need for creating a context for contemporary art in Bulgaria motivates Sariev to develop in partnerships with curators and art critics two annual para-platforms - an educational course for contemporary art - "Introduction to Contemporary Art" 2010 and the first international event for collectors of contemporary art in Bulgaria - Collectors' Forum September 2011.
Together with Sariev Gallery Katrin and Vesselina Sarievi established two other organizations, independent, but closely connected to the idea of the gallery - Open Arts Foundation, 2007 and a coffee house with library - artnewscafe, 2008.
