The Saatchi Gallery, 7-9 October 2010

"The purchase of any artwork tells a personal story and I believe this can be enhanced if the artwork also helps fund a worthy charity. Art of Giving was created to make a difference in the world through art."
- Tracey Bambrough, Art of Giving.

This October the Saatchi Gallery plays host to the Art of Giving, a major new art event that aims to bring new artistic talent to the forefront of the art scene while raising money for charity. There are three elements to the Art of Giving: an exhibition, a competition and an auction.

The Exhibition

Over forty of the world's leading artists will be showing at one of the largest exhibitions of its kind. The list includes Turner Prize winner Mark Wallinger, American artists Jeff Koons and Leonardo Drew, internationally renowned photographer Terry O'Neill and Gavin Turk. All works are for sale with the profits going directly to charity.

The Silent Auction

A silent auction provides collectors with a chance to bid for art by well-known artists. The auction is organised by FAS London specifically to raise money for Stepping Stones to provide aid to children cast as 'witches' in Nigeria. Several of the works have no reserve prices. You simply leave your name and your top bid with the organiser. The artists whose work will be up for bidding include: Gavin Turk , Beezy Bailey, Dan Coombs, Leonardo Drew, Steve Goddard, Hassan Hajjaj, Tony Heywood, Henry Krokatsis , Vivienne Koorland, Penny Lamb, Zac Ove and Jason Martin.

The Competition

For the past six months hundreds of artists worldwide have been submitting work for the Art of Giving open art competition. There are three categories: Painting and Drawing; Photography and Sculpture. The thirty finalists (ten in each category) will be exhibiting at the Saatchi Gallery where their work will be for sale. The competition winners will be announced on 7th October. The deadline for entries is 31st August. Information on how to enter the open art competition is at www.artofgiving.co.uk

The charities supported by the Art of Giving are: Stepping Stones, Crisis/Michael AZ Art Foundation, CHASE, Elsa Trust and GAWPT, Music Makers, Independent Age, House of Fairy Tales and One Drop Foundation.
