Immediate Release: VCUQatar Welcomes the Class of 2012

Doha, Qatar - The Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUQatar) welcomed 48 full time and one part time new student to the Education City campus. 14% of Class of 2012 are young men and 86% are young ladies. Along with students from Qatar, the class of 2012 has students from Bangladesh, Bosnia, Canada, Egypt, India, Jordan, Lebanon, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Sudan, Syria, UAE, UK, and the US.

Admission to VCUQatar has become more competitive every consecutive year. The incoming Class of 2012 represents highly qualified students who demonstrated strong academic skills, English language competency and background in art that suggests the potential to succeed as burgeoning designers.

"I look forward to the development of the incoming students into skilled professional designers over the next few years. I know that the members of our faculty will enjoy working with them," stated Dr. Charles Bleick, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

The welcome given by faculty and administration marked the conclusion of an exciting week of orientation activities, where both students and parents were informed about the challenges and struggles involved in earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in design. Students were exposed to art foundation egg toss, held a cross cultural awareness session and enjoyed a dinner with the faculty at Souq Waqif.

"The class of 2012 is full of enthusiasm and new energy. These young students will be leaders in the design field and contribute to the development and progress of the Gulf region," said Valerie Jeremijenko, Assistant Dean for Students Affairs.
