Doha, Qatar – Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar in partnership with Icograda is proud to announce the participation of Petra Blaisse and Donna Campbell as professional speakers for the Mousharaka conference. Mousharaka will take place at VCUQatar from 28 February to 5 March, 2009.

Petra Blaisse started her career at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in the Department of Applied Arts. Since then, has lectured and taught extensively in Europe, Asia, and the United States. In 1991 she founded Inside Outside whose studio works in a multitude of creative areas including textile, landscape, and exhibition design. Her work has been included in numerous international design and architecture exhibits. Examples include the restoration project for the Hackney Empire Theatre in London (all curtains) and acoustic walls and curtains for the Mercedes Benz museum in Stuttgart.

Projects under development include the 150 meter long wall of the main foyer and the stage curtain for a new music hall in Enschede as well as a curtain and light installation for Bocconi University of Milan. In landscape design, the studio is currently developing public gardens (Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Qatar Foundation Headquarters, the Education City Library, and the Danish Architecture Centre Copenhagen), and master plans for new urban development areas in Dubai, Ras al-Khaimah, Jebel al-Jais, Kuwait, Georgia and Latvia.

Donna Campbell is a lecturer in Maori material culture, indigenous textile creation, and Maori art history at the School of Maori and Pacific Development, University of Waikato, in Hamilton, Aotearoa, New Zealand. Her field of expertise is contemporary weaving in terms of new directions in Maori fibre, and avant-garde construction in woven textile. Recent works include exhibitions involving light and digital imagery. Ms. Campbell’s work reflects the dynamic of an indigenous artist negotiating the bi-cultural interface that is New Zealand.

Ms. Campbell’s work has been exhibited widely in venues such as the Waikato Museum, Hamilton; Randolph St Studios, Auckland; the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Cambridge, UK; the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, Salem, Oregon; and the Tairawhiti Museum, Gisborne.
