VCUQatar announces Claudia Meyer-Newman, Dr. Ajanta Sen, Barbara Sudick, Frank Armstrong and Nicholas Vanderschantz as Educational Speakers and Qatar Tourism Authority as a Sponsor for Mousharaka Doha, Qatar - Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar in partnership with Icograda is proud to announce the participation of Claudia Meyer-Newman, Dr. Ajanta Sen, Barbara Sudick, Frank Armstrong and Nicholas Vanderschantz as educational speakers for the Mousharaka conference. Mousharaka will take place at VCUQatar from 28 February to 5 March, 2009. Designer, creative director, fine art photographer, and educator, Ms. Meyer-Newman has been an active member of the design and education community for the past 25 years and has received numerous awards, grants, and honors. She operates a successful studio that integrates her design practice with photography to produce work that is distributed internationally. Serving as Educational Director at AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Artists), she continues to support students in the AIGA Student Chapter at Cornish College of the Arts. Dr. Ajanta Sen is the International Director of Solar Project, a networking technology experimentation with cross-cultural collaborative learning environments for children. Dr. Sen has a Ph.D in Development Planning from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India, where she is based as a visiting faculty, researcher and consultant to industry. She has to her credit several international papers on design and technology and has been awarded a prestigious Senior Fellowship by the Government of India. Barbara Sudick is the Nierenberg Distinguished Professor of Design in the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University where she teaches collaborative interdisciplinary classes to graduate and post-graduate students in Communication Planning and Information Design and Human Computer Interaction. Her current research explores sustainability, a collaborative systems-based discipline. She holds an MFA in Graphic Design from Yale University. Frank Armstrong is a visiting Assistant Professor in the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Typography, Interaction and Motion Design. His research and teaching integrates music, as an acoustic time-space system, with information design and typography. Mr. Armstrong has 20 years of experience as a design consultant and educator. He holds an MFA from Yale University and is a member of the AIGA and IIID (International Institute for Information Design). Nicholas Vanderschantz is a lecturer in Computer Graphic Design in the Computer Science Department at the University of Waikato, in Hamilton, New Zealand. His area of research focus has been in children's on-screen reading, specifically, how typographic spacing could best affect children's eye movements during reading. This area of exploration saw him graduate with a Masters in Computer Graphic Design from Wanganui School of Design in 2007. VCUQatar is also proud to announce Qatar Tourism Authority as a sponsor for Mousharaka. Launched in 2000, QTA's overall strategy is to bring Qatar to the world and the world to Qatar. Mousharaka / The Icograda Design Week in Qatar, presented by VCUQatar, is composed of the Education Symposium and the Professional Conference, where prominent speakers will share perspectives on design and design collaborations.
