VCUQatar Announces Summer Community Classes (26.5.2009)

VCUQatar Offers Summer Community Classes to the Community in Qatar

Doha, Qatar - Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar is starting this season's Community Classes and course offerings include various classes in different design areas by noted local and international instructors.

The first set of classes offered in Feb/March filled up extremely quickly as did the late spring set which ran from the 5th of April through to early May. The summer set of classes which run from the end of May to the end of June features the hugely popular Adobe package again as well as classes in Palestinian embroidery, fashion design, fashion accessory design and sculpture. "We are also offering a week long workshop for 9 to 11 year olds from 5 to 9 July and another Design Discovery program for students in their final year of secondary school," said Valerie Jeremijenko, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at VCUQatar. "We want our programs to reach the entire community," she added.

The Design Discovery class is for Qatari students who plan to pursue university-level study in art or design. Classes include portfolio development and design basics and will run from 28 June until 2 July from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The Art Discovery workshop is targeting younger students between the ages of nine and 12 and classes will cover the basics of design and art using a variety of media and techniques. These classes will run from 5 July to 9 July from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM everyday. Registration deadline for both classes is 18 June, 2009 and fees are QR 2000.

VCUQatar offers non-credit classes as part of its mission to provide educational, cultural and design opportunities to the Qatari community. All classes are open to both women and men and are taught at the VCUQatar campus.
