VCUQatar is proud to present: Photographer Chris Jordan Where: VCUQatar Atrium When: Monday November 10th at 7PM. Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar Hosts Standing Room Only Opening to Generations Exhibit Doha, Qatar- Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar presents Chris Jordan's presentation entitled Running the Numbers: Portraits of Mass Consumption as part of the Image, Word and Voice speaker series at VCUQatar. The public event will be hosted in the VCUQatar atrium on November 10th at 7:00PM. No reservations are required and all are welcome. Chris Jordan is the Seattle-based photographic artist who first became known for his large scale color photographs of the American consumer culture, in a series entitled Intolerable Beauty: Portraits of American Mass Consumption. His recent project, Running the Numbers has established Chris as an internationally acclaimed artist and spokesperson for social change. When Running the Numbers was first released, it quickly went viral on the Net and since then Chris's website has averaged 75,000-100,000 visitors per month. Chris's work recently won the prestigious Green Leaf Award from the United Nations Environmental Program, presented at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, Norway and this year his Running the Numbers series was one of three finalists for the international Darmstadt Photographic Prize in Germany, and was a finalist for the new Green Prix Award in the United States. "We are excited to bring talented artists to Qatar for the Image, Word and Voice lecture series. Chris' presentation will have something for everyone in the audience to connect with," stated Byrad Yyelland, Director of General Education. Chris's images have been featured in virtually every form of print and electronic medium and he has been invited to exhibit his work in the U.S., Asia, Europe and South America and now, the Middle East. Chris is a popular and charismatic presenter who was recently chosen by National Geographic Channels International to serve as their Eco-ambassador for Earth Day, 2008. Chris Jordan will be in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in November to participate in the World Economic Forum summit and he is coming to VCUQatar on November 10 at 7:00PM for the Image, Word & Voice visiting speaker series sponsored by the General Education program. The Image, Word & Voice series is sponsored by the Department of General Education and is designed to bring world-class experts and artists to VCUQatar to share their ideas, work and expertise. This enables our students, and members of the local community, to meet with and learn from individuals who are on the cutting edge of their areas of expertise.
