1966 Born in Voorschoten (NL)

Harold de Bree reconstructs old military objects. Airplanes, tanks, a complete gun shop. Built full-size and based on drawings found on the internet. These old objects, sober and pure, lead to brute and overwhelming images. Heavy, unpleasant, gigantic, dangerous objects. Images with grey qualities.

Brees’ work cannot be overseen. It is massively present, and über-clear. De Bree is mad on militarism. Therefore you might see his work as literally copying and reconstructing history. As anti-new and anti-art.You take it for what it is, at least at first sight.

On second sight the concrete will disappear and be followed by a seizing atmosphere. Lucidity replaced by insecurity; answers by questions. The images are modern icons. They awaken a mixture of feelings, memories and desires.
