James Gallagher „What ́s Your Pleasure?“
The New York based artist uses collage to investigate human form and personal identity. Piecing together images cut from found
material: old books, National Geographic, and the occasional sex manual. James Gallagher creates intimate scenes that are
personal and moving. The assembled silhouettes result in small to medium sized formats convincing with their subtle colours and
filigree shapes. Gallagher’s characters are both interlinked units and solitary wanderers, at times dynamic at times paralyzed. The
artist however does not dictate the mood of his figures but maintains an openness in his work asking the viewer to determine the
character’s frame of mind.
James Gallagher’s work has been shown in many exhibitions around the globe and has been featured in numerous magazines,
newspapers and books. He has also realised projects for Arkitip, Stussy, Undefeated, J&L Books, Nerve.com and Virgin Mobile.
