Francis Bacon. The portraits
Modern man in his existential conflict, social isolation and animal brutality is the central theme of Francis Bacon’s painterly oeuvre. Between depictions of nature and surrealist alienation, Bacon has created a unique gallery of images of man in the century of modernism. The most important English painter of the 20th century, he is the subject of this large-scale exhibition, which has been conceived and organised in collaboration with the British Council and the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh.
