ART FORUM BERLIN – September 26-30, 2002
Taking place for the seventh time, from September 26th to the 30th, 2002, ART FORUM BERLIN, The International Fair for Contemporary Art, is determined to continue its focus on the cutting edge of today´s art world.
Visitors should expect an even stronger concentration than in the past years on lastest tendencies now driving the international art scene. The presentation of emerging artists and new innovative galleries who will be exhibiting at ART FORUM BERLIN for the first time will also be a strong point.
155 galleries from 25 countries will show pieces by over 1,200 artists working in a variety of media including video, photography, painting, sculpture and installation. The "Project Spaces" will offer a unique opportunity for not yet established international galleries to take part in the fair.
ART FORUM BERLIN will spotlight a number of Russian galleries whose rise to the international scene is a noteworthy development in today´s art world. For the first time, galleries Escape (Moscow), Ulitsa OGI (Moscow), VP Studio (Moscow), 259 Gallery (Moscow), D 137 (St. Petersburg) and N Gallery (Tiflis) will be present. Galleries XL and Aidan (both from Moscow) will be returning.
The eastern European art market also being a focus this year, Gallery Skuc from Ljubljana and Galeria Erika Deák from Budapest have been invited for the first time. Poland will be represented by the Galeria Foksal Foundation and Chechnya by Gallery Jiri Svestka. The open curatorial discussion "Europe United" (28.09.2002) will cover the art and cultural scene of future Eastern European EU members. The ART FORUM BERLIN catalog will, aside from the presentation of all exhibitors, also concentrate on Eastern Europe. Outside the expo halls, five artists from Poland, Slovenia and Hungary will present recent work as part of the "Kunstexpeditionen | 2002 Osteuropa" (Art Expeditions | 2002 Eastern Europe) exhibition project at Potsdamer Platz in the city of Berlin.
In the series "Cities in Dialogue,” representatives from international art institutions will be introducing the art scenes of their respective cities.
Last year´s expo counted 23,800 visitors. ART FORUM BERLIN 2002, taking place soon after Documenta 11 and Manifesta 4, is expected to attract an even greater and more international public.
