London Art Fair

London Art Fair 2006 opened

Yesterday evening, the 18th London Art Fair opened its doors to the public. 2,901 visitors attended the preview evening, 17% more than last year. Nearly 20,000 visitors came to the London Art Fair in 2005. For 2006, the direction of the fair anticipates up to 25,000 visitors.

The London Art Fair is the largest and most-established fair of its kind and features 100 leading galleries selected each year after rigorous vetting by a committee of key gallerists.

Opening Ceremony

This year's charity beneficiary is the Terrence Higgins Trust. The Terrence Higgins Trust's ART ANON displays leading contemporary artists who have donated their works for an auction. The auction took place at the Preview Evening (Tues 17th Jan). All proceeds will be credited to the Terrence Higgins Trust.

The auction was held by Christie's. All works have been sold. The highest bids were made for an oil painting by Jack Vettriano (Retro Riviera) with 31,000, a Neon by Tracey Emin (Keep me safe) with 9,000, and handmade earthenware by Tracy Emin (Oh so natural) with 4,500.
